Real-time on-line teaching

In circumstances where it is not practical to arrange face-to-face tuition, the Further Mathematics Network provides real-time on-line tutorials and teaching sessions in Further Mathematics. Students can access live interactive tuition at a time and location to suit them.

Communication between tutor and student in Elluminate happens via keyboard, via microphone and headset and through handwritten mathematics via a graphics tablet. To see a recording of an Elluminate session click here.

As well as audio alongside straightforward whiteboard work and slide presentations, through Elluminate tutor and students can work together using any mathematics-relevant software, such as spreadsheets and graph plotters.

Here are some comments from students who have been learning through the Elluminate system:

elluminate screen“At first I thought it would be difficult to understand work learning it off a screen, but it actually helps to focus your concentration.”

“The Elluminate system has allowed me to study for a course that I would not otherwise have been able to. The system is great, I have found that it can cope easily with classes of 10 to 15 students, and the microphones, whiteboard and application sharing mean the students can experience classroom style interaction with teachers and students that may be hundreds of miles away.”

“The Elluminate system... it's an invaluable tool for furthering the reach of the FM Network.”

The Further Mathematics Network provides regular tutorial support to many students via Elluminate.

A full programme of on-line Revision Sessions takes place for both Summer and Winter module examinations.

The Further Mathematics Network also offers a full programme of tutorials to prepare students for STEP and AEA mathematics examinations.
