About the Centre

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Further Mathematics Centre exists to promote AS/A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in the region and to support students and teachers engaged in Further Mathematics. The Centre is a collaborative effort between the University of Southampton and the four Local Authorities in the region (Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth & Southampton) and benefits from the active involvement of staff from the renowned School of Education and School of Mathematics at the University of Southampton as well as from schools and colleges in the region.
For information, please contact:
Ruth Edwards (Hampshire) ruth.edwards@fmnetwork.org.uk
Jill Traill (Isle of Wight) jilltraill@fmnetwork.org.uk

Almost every school and college in the region that offers Further Maths is registered with the Hants&IoW FMC. If you are a teacher and are unsure, please check with us (see contact details below). Any school or college not yet registered is cordially invited to do so by clicking on this link:

Support for students
The Centre organises revision days and study days for students studying A-level Further Maths, and provides support for enrichment events for students at primary, secondary and post-16 levels. Please see the "anouncements" section (to the right) for details of upcoming events.

Where appropriate, students taking A-level Further Maths can get teaching/tutoring support through the Centre. This is arranged through the student's school or college. The teaching takes place in a variety of venues. Where possible, students from different schools/ colleges are brought together so that they can get to know one another and work together on their Further Mathematics. We also try to arrange teaching to groups in their own school/ college, wherever possible, to back-up their regular lessons. All students taught/ tutored through the Centre have access to the purpose-written Further Mathematics resources website from which they are set work to do. In addition to this, students, where appropriate and necessary, have regular contact with their tutor by email, telephone and/or fax.

Support for teachers and schools/colleges
The work of the Centre in promoting AS/A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics in the region is carried out in collaboration with local schools and colleges. As part of this, the Centre can assist with events designed to increase the uptake of AS/A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Such events involve promoting interest in mathematics amongst school pupils at secondary and primary school level.

In supporting teachers, the Centre hosts professional development opportunities for teachers who wish to teach Further Mathematics or to develop their teaching of one or more mathematics units at AS and A-level.

All schools & colleges in the region are encouraged to register with the Centre. Registration is free and ensures that institutions are kept fully informed about the work of the Centre. All registered schools & colleges receive their own username and password enabling all staff in the institution to access online teaching and learning material covering all the Further mathematics units. To register, please click on the "online registration request" link at the bottom of the page.

Events
The Centre hosts a range of events, including revision, study and enrichment days. Please see the Announcements and News section on the right for details of future events.
